Friends in Marriott Ocean Park, HK

In entering the hotel main entrance, this gigantic fish tank of 3 storey high is very spectacular.  Have seen all these fishes in Maldives and made me so warm that I miss those friends in the Indian Ocean atolls.

Marriott Ocean Park, HK

Some of my friends wonder why I went to try some local hotels.  My answer was "support the local economy wherever possible".  I was glad to find out I could also get to know more around the neighbouring area that I might miss in the past.  To this end, I could see more of this city I grew up with.  I could further get enlightened to see the past of myself.
The room was quite comfy and spacious, but the bed mattress of Marriott/Sheraton the so-called heavenly bed made me a hard time to sleep.  It was too foamy and slopping if the house keeping didn't keep up a good work to flaten the mattress topper.  The sound proof of this room reminded me of Renaissance Bangkok.

World of color - Ocean Park, Hong Kong

During my taking the photos in the aquariums, I noticed a no. of people carrying some very expensive DSLR cameras such as Canon 5D, 1D or Nikon D300 or D3...etc. with a very refined lens. The most interesting part is that they use the built-in flash to take objects behind the glass. Even at the Panda house, they still did so, disregarding the entrance rules that flashes would scare our most precious animals. In situation like that, suggest to use a higher ISO (especially those professional DSLRs have very good ISO control to 1,600 with very minimal noise) to 800 to 1,600 and a larger aperture over F.2, or ISO400 for some prosumers cameras.

These last 2 photos show the Ocean Train connecting the main entrance area and the hillside attractions in just 1 minute ride instead of the 10 minute cable car ride. Good for those who have high altitude phobia.

Rotating view to the south HK

You will see some construction sites which are the future hotels of Ocean Park. A very perceptive planning.

Fish, Fish, Fish - Ocean Park Hong Kong

My LA friend told me Ocean Park Hong Kong is now ranked as no. 2 on the rarity of various animals and I was told it's now within the top 5 around the World in general. My overall impression of Ocean Park. They have a very good management. The staff are very polite and smart too. They charge HK$250 with a cash $50 as a total rebate - no need to spend $100 and get $10 back. Just use the $50 as a cash for shopping and eating inside the Park. That means it's $200 net. This is a very good marketing strategy as you would feel comfortable to spend more money. Then they earn back more thant the $50 rebate. The other theme park in HK really look into it rather than just increasing their entrance fee, now close to HK$500.

Panda, Ocean Park, Hong Kong

1/2. Big ballon at the Entrance of Ocean Park.

3. Took an angle for this panda like it's playing the big ballon. 4. another shot to capture panda with the cable car behind.

5. want a hug? 6. The Si Chuan 8 degree quake did make our cute panda so frightened.

7. As you can see, they grabbed so tight during the quake. Note the trees almost shaken down. 8. See how scared of Mr. Panda.

9/10/11. Enjoying the lunch.
