Cafe Causette, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong

I often don't rely much on the forums for nice restaurants and good food.  However, as I read an article about the best burger in town being awarded to Cafe Causette, I then gave it a try due to the name of MO.  Turned out the burger isn't as nice as those of a fast food shop.  The bread itself isn't too impressive.  Not much brown enough on the 2 faces inside.  The beef patty is super salty.  The french fried isn't nice at all and also very salty.  I called the captain and brought up all these for his attention.  So I got the answer that their beef patty is supplied by a contractor and marinated already when they were sent to MO.  I then closed this conversation because it's such a big disappointment that they didn't make the patty on their own.  The captain made a very wrong statement on this by thinking that I shouldn't blame them as it's a third party's problem.  The captain then offered a dessert as a compensation.  I feel embarrassed to further complain about these horrible cakes - crunchy choco cake and NY cheese cake.  Choco cake is much too sweet and the crunchy is already too wet and soft.  The NY cheese cake is very plastic and hard to melt in mouth.   These are like the opposite side of what we got from Clippers Lounge.

2014 Autumn review: dinner buffet at Clippers Lounge, Mandarin Oriental HK

I'd prefer to have a set of lobster and oyster with the buffet instead of picking up some from the station.  This way you can get something fresh and yet you have more room for other food instead of just targeting at the lobster.  Clippers Lounge still keeps their food and services at a relatively high quality.

2012 summer review: Clippers Lounge, Mandarin Oriental HK

When the buffet price of Clippers Lounge has been increased to HK$438 (once 278 and on a 10-20% increase every now and then since 2009), it is getting easier to book a table. Glad that the prime rib, the seafood - with more variety to abalone, wild mushroom soup and the dessert with house made ice cream are still kept to a very quality. This time I was surprised with their parma ham station with some half-ripe tomato slices. Half-ripe tomato has some light sweetness and firmer which is so good to go with the parma ham. The price of this buffet is actually still lower than the other five star dinner buffets (e.g. HK$498 to 700).

2011 Autumn review: Clippers Lounge, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong

It's the season for Shanghai crab again. Clippers Lounge has a Shanghai theme for its buffet, at HK$408+ with wide variety of seafood. This time the food quality is further improved. Very fresh sashimi, live oysters and superb prime rib as well as the hot dishes. The dessert is awesome and as claimed by my friends too. Note that with an extra of HK$120, free flow of selected red or white wine, good for the wine lover.

2011 summer review - Clipper Lounge, Mandarin Oriental HK

Been here several times during lunch and dinner time. Noticed the sashimi is now served in with some light olive oil and balsamic vinegar/black pepper/herb dressing. This is somewhat challenging as the freshness of the sashimi is very noticeable. What's more, with some oil, the sashimi's juice will be sealed. However, it has to be finished in less than 20 minutes. Otherwise, the dressing will stay on the food and taken out the original fish flavour. At this dinner, the prime rib wasn't done right. Should have been in a slower and lower heat roasting. Then they serve some home made ice cream, but it's not as good as the old time ground floor cafe. This time they use a bit too creamy and with too much air in it. Except these 3, all other food are still kept in very high standard. Fresh oyster, nice cold cut platter, nice fried rice and noodle and the bread.
