Didn't expect much from the hot trays of this travel lounge, but the chicken drumsticks made me take one more. Perhaps I have missed for so long what a chicken is supposed to have tasted. Got some nice pickled too and grab the last chance to try a Borsch.

Aerial view to Baltic Sea & Saint Petersburg
It was very spectacular to look outside of the plane's window. My history class echoed in my mind - Baltic Sea. Finally I could take this aerial view to this historical place. The plane further flew over Saint Petersburg. There I found out the hotel location and those streets I once walked by.

A summer ambient rooftop swimming pool, Hotel Taleon Imperial, Saint Petersburg, Russia
The whole building of this hotel looks like it can accomodate more than a hundred rooms, but in reality there are probably 50 rooms. Most of the spaces are corridors and big halls. The rooftop swimming pool was a good relaxing place in the afternoon after your half day checking out the city and before going out again for dinner. Even though it was minus 5 degree outside, the indoor was set to 28-30 degree.

Peter the Great, in his big city - Peter's city, Russia
In most of the local tourist guides or maps, this iconic figure was shown on the cover. Then I read a bit about how Saint Petersburg was resumed, after Leningrad and petrograd. After World War I, the Imperial Russia tried to get rid of something German by naming the city to Petrograd. Petrograd in Russia means "Peter" "City". Later on, after the death of Lenin, the city was named as Leningrad. Then in the early 90's, the city was renamed back to Saint Petersburg.

Gogol restaurant, Saint Petersburg, Russia
The receptionist politely reminded us to return the table in an hour because it's fully booked. We thought they might be rushing to serve everything in a minute, but every dish was served in a very good timing. Though the place was very historic (over 100 years old), it was very clean and tidy, as noted from the curtain, linen...etc.
We were first served with 2 warm breads - one multi-grain and the other onion cheese. It's not just me who finished these 2 breads in a minute but most others did the same. Then we had a double boiled beef soup and a borsch. I was much surprised the double boiled soup was quite Cantonese style. The only difference is the freshly chopped parsley which was western style. The borsch was a bit sweet to me though. As for the mains, we took beef stroganoff and a steamed fish cake (blended salmon and perch meat). I actually took a bet for this fish dish because steamed fish is a very difficult one. It could be very smelly, mashy, or rough. The first bite told me I got a good bet. It reminded me of the steamed fish patty with tofu (老少平安), a very family Cantonese dish. It was really a fusion food to me when I had the raspberry beetroot sauce and the garlic butter mashed potato. The beef stroganoff was the best among all the others we had tried. Noted that it wasn't in a heavy creamy sauce. Another pleasant surprise was the raspberry dumplings. At first, I doubted it might taste quite weird, but it tasted very refreshing and the dumpling wrap was nicely done - not too chewy but not too soft.
