Kao Hsuing 高雄, Southern Taiwan

KaoHsuing is the second largest city in Taiwan. Kao means "high" and Hsuing means "hero. What a masculine name, and in fact Kao Hsuing is a port for container ships. It has a very deep harbour like Hong Kong.

1. On the right, it's the Splendor Hotel, the highest landmark in KaoHsuing and was once in the top 5 highest building around the world in the 90's. I am staying on the left brown one - Grand Hi Lai Hotel and it's supposed to be the most expensive hotel - around NT$6,000 (US$170) but it's just a classic hotel with some expensive marble stone - like Shangrila KL or BKK of 20 years ago. 2. Ji Jeang 旗津 is the long island on the Kao Hsuing Harbour. Taking a ferry of around 3 minutes from the mainland and it's like Star Ferry in Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.

3. I often enjoy riding a bicycle for sightseeing in Taiwan. No need to spend unnecessary money on gym. 4. the cliff off the beach on the north point.

5. Ice culture - Taiwan is a place for various ice dessert. 6. so this one is like Ah B Herbal Jelly in Yuen Long - just big and with lots of variety.

7. Kao Hsuing from the view of British Embassy - the British really know where to stay! 8. the container ship departing KaoHsuing.
8. Si Zi Wan

Hi SS, back in the 70's, Taiwan would be very different from now. Must be quite some memory for you.

You are right Sea, 30 years has been a long time. Even 10 years makes a big difference. And sometimes even one year makes a drastic change. Just like one year ago in 5/08, we went through the traumatic earthquake in Sze Chuan, and then in 08/08/08 we experienced the phenomenal Olympic in China that impressed the world, and then one month later the unexpected financial tsunami that hurts the world. Our Life and mood is like a roller coaster in the past 12 months.

So that's why we should treasure each day we count and sometimes quiet days should be enjoyable.
