2012 Spring visit: Xi Yue 八月芳, Taikoo Place Quarry Bay HK

When this restaurant was first opened 2 years ago, I was delighted to try it on a high hope. That was an awful experience - not even just some mustard sauce can be ok.
Out of curiosity, I gave it a try lately and the impression is on a 180 degree turn. In the beginning of a hot summer, the appetizer is quite important. When I see this pickled baby onion (photo 1), it does get my appetite for sure. Photo 2: Sliced conch and cucumber (HK$48). See how good of the cutting skill of the chef. Photo 3: BBQ pork HK$68. Very aromatic and tender juicy. Photo 4: chestnut and mushroom stewed HK$48. Nicely stewed and the mushroom was rinsed well (no dirt or wet smell). Photo 5: deep fried "9 belly" fish HK$48. Crispy outside and juicy smooth inside. Photo 6: even the steamed rice is good too.
Photo 7 Stir fried kai lan HK$68. I like the way the stems were trimmed a bit. Photo 8: egg white almond sweet HK$30.

in theory all head chefs shall be able to cook well, but usually they don't do the cooking themselves (unless diners r vip), so everything is controlled by a team of chefs, and whether the head chef can manage them

for sure Xi Yue now has an able head chefs that can oversee the kitchen well ..

btw, i like the decor of this restaurant - modern CN decor

Oh I missed the first dish(Suen Q Tau) for a long time.
The Char Siu looks so tender and juicy.

I believe the head chef finally get to manage (or maybe they have a new head chef) the team.
SS, you can't find Q Tau in LA?

Correct Sea. No fresh Q Tau yet in LA restaurant.
But there are Q Tau in glass jar imported from China at 99 Ranch Market.
But I won't buy those in a jar or can as not fresh.
I just asked the French chef to make me one before he goes back to France.

Wow... you don't need to miss the HK Q Tau then.

BTW, my friend took us to a Japanese chain all-you-can-eat(Tokai) for lunch today in Arcadia Shopping Mall and glad to find the Q Tau next to Wasabi section.
But today no time to see this Q Tau as I have to eat lots of sashimi today.
No need from French Chef any more.

SS... then please think about a brief stop over HK. :)

I mean Todai instead of Tokai.
A brief stop over HK may be a pain for me due to so many choices and eating places in such a short period of time.
Really need to eat 7 meals a day then.
I am reading the "Eat and Travel Weekly" now as it is all about eating in HKK.
Also watching TVB's "Midnight Food Hunt" every Sunday night.
