I often share with the others about how one shop dares to bet on getting a return is the key to its success. For example, the $1 chicken by Tao Heung HK and the free noodle by Kam Moon Ting...etc. This time it's Sunny Hills offering a complimentary tea and a pineapple pastry, regardless if you would buy their products after the trying. This aroused much noises from the media and the word-of-mouth. The place isn't some places with no deco. but a nice garden with a patio and some cozy furniture. So all these gave 5-plus to the complimentary tea and pineapple pastry.
Personally I couldn't take more than half piece as it would give me back my pimples.

Thank you Sea for showing the nice photos of Sunny Hills so finally I can meet them here after eating for years.
Yes many people are impressed the way they give out complimentary tea and the pastry without thinking if the customers will buy or not.
I usually need to eat 2 pieces at one time you really have good control Sea.
The complimentary tea and pastry cost earned them back much from the word-of-mouth advertising.
Personally I don't like pineapple pastry being much too buttery.
Yes this is a loss leader.
They will earm back later from the free offer.
Yes I don't like too buttery too but most of the them are.
This is the common thing for many Taiwanese cuisine - heavy sauce, super tangy, heavy butter, heavy cheese.....
They may think this is authentic if everything heavy...........
