Yes, the first one was taken like "sunset is gone.. grab it anywhere I can take it.". Later on, it turned out it's still there and so have enough time to find a better position. Also, it's better to move such a "bright" object on either side, not in the center. So this way, the contrast won't be too much and so we can still see the boat in more details.

Personally I like #2 composition, it's clean on the left side with the sun's reflection. Very nice.
