Pearl 珍珠, Beijing Marriott City Wall 北京萬豪(建國門)

In taking the benefit of the Maririott gold card, this restaurant has been like my canteen during my stay at Beijing Marriott City Wall. The food in general is pretty good considering it's a Cantonese (main) and other provincial cuisine restaurant. The master chef is from Hong Kong and came to greet each table and got to know more about the customers.
Once again, this Marriott offers a wide selection of tea including some very refined Pu Er 普洱. What interested me is their herbal drink of the day - Summer grass 夏枯草 (RMB48 @jar) Photo 2, without any sugar in it. This is exactly what my father often told me not to put any sugar or salt in the Chinese herbal drink or soup. He claimed that sugar and salt would simply destroy the herbal's effectiveness. From Photo 3 onwards are:
3. Jelly fish in black vinegar (RMB32). 4. Black fungus in lightly spicy vinegar(RMB28). 5. BBQ pork (RMB30). 6. Steamed rice (RMB10). 7. Chicken in spicy salt (RMB68) - this one is very nice and without the Chef coming out, I could tell he is from HK since the chicken meat was first marinated in egg white - very important step to make chicken tender and smooth.
8. Lettuce in bean paste ground pork (RMB58). 9. Mango pudding (RMB28) - fresh mango juice in it. Very nice. 10. Spinach with crushed peanut (RMB28). 11. Pickled radish (RMB22). 12. Dried shrimp veggie casserole (RMB48) - this is amazing and unreasonably low price. Very nice soup base. 13. Fujian fried rice (RMB32) - on the menu it claimed for 1 person portion but it turned out it's already a normal size for 2-3 people. Considering this is a 4.5 star hotel Chinese restaurant, it's really low price. 14. Yeung Chow fried rice (RMB28). Again very big portion. 15. Duck in brown sauce (RMB38). 16. Hot and spicy tofu with diced scallop (RMB58). Quite many scallop and very low price too. 17. Herbal jello (RMB28). 18. Deep fried sesame balls (RMB28). 19. Shred veggie (RMB28). 20. Black fungus and beef casserole (RMB58).

the food look good, price - per head right? as if it is per dish then too cheap considered in a 4-5 stars hotels ..

why same Marriott, Beijing can hv a good one, but Bangkok is a sucks one!!

Interesting and surprising the prices are not on per head, and it's very big portion. So it's cheaper than eating at any Cantonese restaurants in HK after I used the Marriott gold card. :) JW Mariott BKK really needs to look into their own problems.

Stella, when they served the steamed rice like a bowl or shark's fin, it does have the feeling of serving royal cuisine.

If the price is not per head then it is worth it as the quality and the presentation is really royal.

I almost think you have dinner with Wu Yeh Yeh.
