I guess someone may have brought up that concern. Right now, people ask for smaller "DSLR" quality camera with large LCD display, the designer is really having some challenges on the buttons. My D-lux 3 has a mini-jock stick (just 0.2cm) to move for the shutter/aperture setting.

From the product photos that I have seen on the internet. The buttons layout is better than the E-PL1.
The magnifying glass button on the E-PL1 is difficult to get to and often hit the movie recored button along with it.
