2 weeks ago Cathay Pacific announced its extra bonus to be paid to all the staff as a result of a profit gain. Today the staff union of Cathay Pacific announced their strike in the coming holiday's season. Again, this is the sequel of those "spoiled" HK "big kids". They think the bonus is taken for granted and they should get it. On the contrary, they initiate the strike at this critical peak season. Don't they ever think it will spoil the travelers only vacation of the year. It's not a single event but as I know quite a no. of teenagers and persons in their 20's think they should be given naturally and think this is part of their given life. Really pathetic.

sooner or later those 90's-after will eat there own rotten apple if not shit, good for them!
That's a very cool plane photo. So the CA employees are not happy with their salary even with the extra bonus pay out. Are their salaries below the industry's standard? If so, I could understand that. But seems to me there are a lot of HK special interest groups are protesting and striking for the sake of it. It's not a bad idea to be heard but the most important thing is what's the motive and the goal they are trying to accomplish.
Some of you may think I comment in morning time. It's my waiting time for window to get authenticated. The good thing for getting legitimate MS software is that you can't avoid the auto-authentication and their manipulate updates. MS knows how to give leisure time to corporate employees. :)
Oh, Mickey, remember that old story that the boy died because he didn't know how to turn over the Jiang Su cake 江蘇餅 as his mom hangs that on his neck while she was away for a trip. So soon we will read this on the newspaper. No kidding at all.
Pixmation, first, CX's pilots' salaries are the highest among all other airlines. Their junior crew's salary is at average at HK$15,000 to 18,000 and senior at around HK$25-30k. Then the junior clerks are about 8k to 12k.
Well, the people would demonstrate for:
1. refusing some hospitals like HIV treatment or lung disease to be built near their houses, but it's ok for them to go to other areas for treatments.
2. refusing ash cremation memorial place to be built near their houses. Again, they can go to other areas for that.
3. claiming "no house" after graduation and no girl friend because of that. So I suggest Sun Hung Kei and Cheung Kong to sell their houses with a slogan "dream girl or dream man in your dream house waiting for you. Ask your Gov't to pay if your mom. don't".
4. claiming the Gov't's money is theirs and no one can spend that, but meanwhile they know every way to avoid paying tax. This is true some ask the company to hire them as overseas employee.
5. if the stock or property property drops, the Gov't is responsible to pay for their loss, but they wouldn't pay the Gov't on their profit gain.
The above are just a few examples. :)
BTW, the plane in the photo is CX's first plane called Betsy. I took the photo of a CX show on its 60th birthday.
Nice picture of the CX plane.
I agreed with SEA. My friend(who used to work at CX as IT manager) also admitted CX paid very well to its staffs. And even if the staffs don't get paid well, it is still not too professional or responsible to be on strike during X'Mas so as to screw up so many family's once-a-year vacation plan. This is selfish. They may think they deserve more, but they shall also think it is a blessing that they can work at CX.
People usually don't know how much they have until they lose it.
har do u mean that MS do the software authenticated everyday u turn on the pc? waste of our time
i hate MS updates, sometimes these updates clash with my other software
i better stick to XP for another 3 years until it is out-of-after-sale-service
They would just blame the company on that fault even though they initiate the strike. If they wanna ask for what they think the company mis-treat them, they should go on an industry legal claim or resort it to the labour dept., not like this way to use some other innocent people as a threatening tool.
TC, I am using Win XP still in my company and because there are so many bugs for vista and Win 7, our own tailormade data base as written on Win sequel server needs to have 2 different versions, and 4 mirror hard drive for the data backup. The server is like a Ferrari running in the office. My IT guy warn me not to have the Win XP live update, but too bad I accidentally press the authentication for my Win XP. So that's how the story went for the past few weeks. Besides, the Norton 360 made it even worse. It has something crashing with my outlook express. It would destroy my whole week emails! So now, I have my company emails be auto-forwarded to another email account as a backup. Then on the outlook express, I need to have a folder to immediately put all new emails on that working folder. Sorry if that sounds complicated, but now it's no point of return unless I re-install the Win XP, but then I need to re-configure my PC and my company's net drive and my database log-in and so many other things.... The office 2010 is already another headache for me... I am like an analysis to find out all these legitimate software bringing the "extra" benefits for me. The horrible part is that now some newer things are going to say "break up ok?" to Win XP, esp. my various business clients are doing that. One hair change can trigger thousand hair standing up.
About what people are protesting about, if I read those somewhere else, I would probably think it's was a joke.
SEA,
Your comment was exactly what my banker friend said today.
Yes, CX staffs shall not hold hostage on all the innocent customers during Holiday Season to get what they want. If they think they have a ground for another bonus or raise, just go for a class action, which is common way for bankers here to express unfair treatment. But they never close the bank and on strike to get what they want.
Pixmation, now that anything can be possible, not just nothing is impossible.
Stella, if those people recall at the SARS time, only 8 passengers on a CX jet from Frankfurt to HK and even on one of my journey, there were only 18 passengers. They should think business is not taken for granted. Not all the time the airlines are making business. Why don't they invest their money to run an airline.
Yes, the CX staffs will learn the lesson later, hopefully not at the expense of all their loyal customers.
CX still has its loyal clients somehow.
