東江好棧 Eastern Hakka cuisine, Kornhill, Hong Kong

Passed by this restaurant several times and finally tried it.

1. Sunny dried duck with taro 荔芋臘鴨㷛 HK$68. Overall the taste is quite nice and the sunny dried duck is very aromatic, but the taro is a bit too mashy. It's probably from not deep frying well before shimmering it. 2. steamed rice - good one.

3. South Africa abalone HK$38 for one. It's a very bargain one though it's from South Africa. This one should be the 24 pieces per catty quality and the selling price is around HK$2,500 to 3,000. The chef did a very nice job in shimmering it for long hours with nice chicken/pork stock. Besides, it's not heavily seasoned with oyster sauce. 4. See a nice stir fried bean sprout is like this - no heavy juice or sauce left on the plate. HK$60 and it's pretty good.
5/6. the restaurant.

I can't believe it. The food looks scrumptious and so reasonably priced. I have been dining at the wrong places when I was in HK. Now, thanks to your blog, I can eat like a local and know where to head for good food.

Hi Android, don't feel bad. We also visited many restaurants which are over priced with the food not all right. Let me know next time if you are here and which restaurants you wanna try. This one and the other one called Tsui King Lau in Wanchai are pretty good. This one is just on the subway MTR station Taikoo on the eastern HK part. Take the exit for Kornhill Plaza and you will see this restaurant on the 2nd floor. Cheers.

Thanks, Sea. You are always so helpful. Hi! TC... Yes. I have to agree that the prices are ridiculously low for HK. I can't even get this price in KL. I don't think BKK can offer it at that price too! Too bad, my job schedule is so packed. I would love to go for a eating trip to HK and BKK!

When I looked at their menu and this one is on a special deal, I'm not sure if that would last for a month or so. It seems like probably the restaurant hoped to find a way in offering this special to attract customers and they know they would not just go there for abalone. The other factor is that most restaurants in some residential area need to do something for their dinner time since most people would just cook at home after work and watch TV series as their mental dishes with the meal. :)

Yes Paranoid, if you follow leader SEA and TC, you will get very good foodssss in both HK and BKK.
Maybe more than you can handle.
Surprise that both of them are so fit.

Hi Joe, I also doubted when I looked at the menu and the actual size was even bigger than I expected. I guess it's their marketing strategy in getting more customers.

This entry proves that no matter how tasty or how disgusting the food is, it automatically looks good when it's posted on a blog. I live in Kornhill, and I've eaten in this restaurant for a million times. The photos look great here, but they are really not that great. Pretty mediocre actually.

Thanks Phil for the comments. I also admitted the food is not that super good as I described the casserole on the no. 1 photo. Sometimes we may need to take the price and portion...etc. into consideration. It's just my first time of trying this restaurant and I may not check the other dishes. So you should be frustrated much further when you find the food not that great after a million times.
