The room is very spacious (in terms of Japanese type hotel room) but not practical at all. No writing desk, and not enough bedside table and cabinet/drawers. Just 4 walls plus 2 chairs. The hotel shut down the central air-conditioner compressor in the night time. I didn't realised that until I checked out on why the air-con. couldn't work in night time. Then I complained that they shouldn't get some thick quilt bedding, as summer night time in Hokkaido is pretty hot. Anyway, the front desk didn't seem to get my point.

Did you mean there is no air-con at night time when the night is hot?

Save electricity or the hotel price is half price so no air-con at night?
Energy saving, but don't know why they turn on the air-con. in day time, when no one is in the room. Then turn off the air-con. in night time when it's occupied.
Yes they have very special logic.
May be they expect guests to stay at hotel in the day time and go out at night.
Besides, most Japan hotels have their check-in policy of 3pm check-in and 10am check-out. So from 10am to 3pm, they turn on the air-con for no guests.
Har 10 am check out and 3 pm check in? Worse than US. Our check out is 12 noon with same check in time.
So Japanese are really smart people, also very cost effective.
Recently I heard that some hotels in Taiwan have a 24 hour period check in-out policy, say 5pm check in and so 5pm check out too on the next day.
I like the check in/out time in Taiwan; more fair.
