Oh gueesing game again I love it. My guess: 1) The light is to warn the simmers there are rocks underneath so it is dangerous. 2) Or to make you see clear to avoid rocks or fish or shark. 3) Or to make the fish see clear abd avoid you. 4) Or to guide you how to swim back when you are far away.

Actually it can be all of your guesses. I'd however notice the lamp light attracts a lot of fishes so that you can watch some fishes beneath.
