The restaurant, Banyan Tree Sanya, Hainan Island, China

If a five star resort restaurant are charging high and offering the high quality of food, then I wouldn't bother to go out for other choices.  After the first lunch at this restaurant, no matter how much I need to pay to go out (taxi fare about RMB60-100 roundtrip), I wouldn't mind the time cost to go out.  This lunch is a really rip-off and the food is so so.  The Yang Chow fried rice is at RMB98 - very small portion and cheap ham was used.  The chef apparently didn't know what Yang Chow fried rice is.  At least the basic ingredients are shrimp, bbq pork and green beans.  Then I ordered a stir fred hand shred noodle with beef (RMB148) and a bitter quard (RMB98).  Even though the food is not good, at least the presentation should be better, when charging at this price level.  The portion is very small too.

OK now this is normal.
This is the price and comment I heard from most of my friends after their trips to China.
Most of my friends who have been to HK and BKK will not like China.
But others who did not go to HK or BKK yet have less complaint to China trip.
So everything is relative.

This is somewhat not balanced between the hotel standard and the high-end restaurants in China. Say South Beauty, they just charge about RMB40-60 a dish but at least the food quality and presentation are far much better.

Not only hotel and restaurant standard not balanced in China but also people income and living standard not balanced and can be so extreme.
This is China.
HK people are lucky in fact.
