Ran into Kantary group hotel a few years ago when I stayed in Le Meridien Khao Lak (now Pullman Khao Lak). The Kantary cafe in Khao Lak has been our regular choice for a drink or ice cream. This time we tried their Thai restaurant called Laem Panwa. Got a Tom Yam soup, crab meat fried rice, Pad Thai and a prawn cake. Though all the dishes we ordered weren't too impressive, at least these had been far much better than the dishes we ordered in Amatara.

I was told food overall in Phuket cannot compare to BKK and HK.
It's true that most southern Thai cuisines aren't that appealing. It seems to me those are quite influenced by Malay cooking culture.
People in HK are lucky since they are surrounded by good food.
